„We would like to set a world record - can you help us to do so?“

Patrick Treml, teacher at the Gratkorn primary school, approached the Papier-macht-Schule team with this question in June 2020. The background is that many activities in the schools and kindergartens, but also in everyday family life, are very much restricted or completely cancelled due to the pandemic. Also the feeling of "pulling together and creating something big" is lost. 

„Young people in particular need positive experiences in order to cope better with the challenges of everyday life!“

With this thought Patrick Treml started his research at "Guiness World of Records" and looked for possible records. Since the "sappi" paper factory is located right next to the school and many of the students' relatives and friends work in this factory, it was obvious to focus on the topic "Paper & Board". Because paper is made from wood (i.e. from trees), the idea was born to create the world's longest chain of paper trees. The Papier-macht-Schule team spontaneously agreed to support the class in the acquisition of (at least 5,000) paper trees.

A forest of "real" trees

In order to additionally do something good for our climate, the world record team has decided to plant a living tree for 50 submitted paper trees. This will create a climate-friendly "world record forest" near Gratkorn, which will provide good air, drinking water, recovery and jobs.
